Untangling Session Overview ($400): One 75-min coaching session where Toya helps successful but stuck women of color sort through the tangle of what to change in their lives —job, relationship, friendship, identity — and land on one clear next step, without needing to have it all figured out first.
You Know You Need To Make A Change. You Just Don’t Know What Or How.
Right now, something’s off.
You’re a successful woman of color. You worked hard to get here. You did what you were supposed to do: the degree, the job, the promotions.
On paper, you’re doing great.
But something isn’t sitting right.
Maybe it’s your job, maybe your marriage, or maybe you can’t even put your finger on it exactly. You just know you’re not happy, and you’re tired of pretending you are.
You’ve started brainstorming changes to make in your head: change jobs, move, start a side hustle, get a hobby, start dating again…
But you’re scared. You worry it’s unrealistic or that it won’t pay enough. You worry you’ll have to start over or that you’re too old/tired/behind to make a change now.
So you stay stuck, weighing all your options at once, getting nowhere.
Here’s what I think: Feeling stuck isn’t our fault.
Women of color are told there’s one path to a good life where we fit in: get the degree, land the six-figure job, get married, have the kids, be easy to be around, and never need anything yourself. Do all of that, and you’re supposed to be happy.
A lot of us did all of that, and we’re still not happy.
It’s not because we’re broken or doing something wrong.
It’s because we have worked twice as hard to be safe, happy, and well. And after you’ve put in all that effort, and still don’t feel happy, you’re left feeling disappointed and stuck.
If you’re carrying everything at once, performing at a high level for people who will never see you as excellent, no matter how many degrees you earn or promotions you get, and you find yourself wondering: was all this hard work for this? The untangling session is for you.
It doesn’t have to be this way, and this session is the first step toward finding something better.
What Real Women of Color Have To Say
For decades, I attempted to adopt constructs and models that were “supposed” to guarantee success, but they never fit. I would gain traction, and monetary wins, only to fall back into overwhelm, self-doubt, and burnout. But when I started working with Toya, she unveiled how internalized racism and societal conditioning were influencing my choices and negatively impacting my ability to thrive. She then helped me shape a sustainable business model that honors who I am, my values, and the life I desire to create for myself.
Let’s sit down, talk it through, and begin to untangle it all
In one 75-minute coaching session we can:
Lay out everything that’s been swirling around your head — every option forward, every "maybe I should," and every fear about what happens if you change something.
Sort out what you actually want from what you should want. The way forward isn’t about what your job wants, what your family expects, or what looks good to everyone else. You need to hear yourself through all of that noise.
Honestly talk through the pros, cons, and risks, and get clear on your top priority for this season of your life.
Land on one concrete, doable next step that you can actually take.
Hi! I’m Toya Gavin.
I’m a lawyer turned coach and writer. I’ve spent a lot of my life being excellent at things that didn’t make me happy, but through a lot of vulnerable work, I found my way down a path toward more peace and freedom than I’ve ever known. My mission is to help women of color find freedom from oppression within and prioritize their happiness and peace above all else.
My approach to coaching women of color is unique in that I do not ignore or bypass the effects of internalized oppression on our achievement. It makes us devalue who we are and what we know. It compromises our ability to show up, be vulnerable, and ask for help. It makes us believe that we must figure out ways to “do better” when we are already doing the best we can.
In reality, it’s the culture that needs to change. In the meantime, our job is to claim and bring forth our full humanity, power, and wisdom as we create a life that moves us from too tired to tireless.
Using this approach, I’ve worked with successful women of color as they’ve navigated finding a new job, starting a relationship, starting a business, moving across the country, getting promoted, and more.
More Results From Women of Color
What changed the most for me is that I can dream new dreams without having to have everything figured out, and that any actions I take to create something are rooted in my beliefs about my worth and inherent value as a woman of color. Toya’s approach is straightforward, practical, and organized. She pays close attention to what you share and creatively uses her understanding of you to help develop an actionable plan.
Toya has been a steadfast support to me over the years, guiding me through the toughest challenges in my therapy practice. As a coach, she consistently helps me see possibilities where I once saw none. She’s streamlined complex tasks with smart automations, clarified the exact steps to reach my goals, and kept me accountable.
One more thing: This session is for the women who don’t have it together
My clients will often say, “Toya, I have to get my sh*t together first. Then I can come talk to you.”
The untangling session says, “What if our sh*t stayed like this and nothing changed? How can we move forward anyway?”
You don’t need to have it all figured out. In fact, when you’re in the middle of it, you need this session most.
Getting your life together isn’t the requirement. It’s what happens after you take the first step, not before.
If you’ve been struggling and keeping it to yourself, this space is for you. We can find a way through, together.
More Praise For Toya’s Coaching Approach
From day one Toya hit me with what I needed to hear: ‘Remember you provide value, you don’t prove it.’ That reminder shifted everything for me. I show up every day confident, rooted, and knowing my worth. If you’re a woman of color thinking about working with her, go ahead and do it. Give yourself this kind of support before you hit burnout.
My favorite part about working with Toya is her ability to help me create efficiencies of scale for my personal life so that I can spend time on those things that are more meaningful to me. This service has helped me to rethink my brand and my messaging and to focus my message/communication with intention. I would tell my friends to consider working with Toya to help them move out of their comfort and to take a chance on themselves. They can’t lose.
